FACT: Women earn 60% of all undergraduate degrees and 60% of all masters degrees, yet only 14.6% of executive officers are women.
FACT: At the start of their careers, the number of men and women who aspire to get promoted are about the same. After as little as 2-years, the number of women who aspire to executive positions drop dramatically (over 20% fall off), while the number of aspiring men remains the same.
She’s a Boss is focused on empowering college women to tenaciously pursue leadership positions. As a She’s a Boss Mentor you will play a key role in this movement by showing young women that:
1) Women leaders exist
2) Women leaders are accessible, and
3) Becoming a woman in leadership is possible
Your Commitment As a She’s a Boss Mentor
FACT: Shown through the success of other hubs of women’s groups (Lean In Circles, Stiletto Networks, Levo League, etc.) when women are mentored, encouraged, and inspired by other women, they are more likely to speak up, lean in, and be leaders in the workplace.
At this time, we reach out to our mentors for guest speaking opportunities in front of audiences as little as 5 (from our experience, intimate settings are more impactful) and as large as 30 or more. Your audience will primarily consist of college students and young professional women.
Other reasons you might hear from us:
• Event invites
• Informational interviews
• 1-on-1 mentoring
Our goal is to have an engaged list of women, not just names and numbers, so all we ask is that you be responsive. You may not be available for everything we reach out to you for, and that’s ok, but as long as you respond, it’s appreciated.
Become a Mentor
You’ll make a great She’s a Boss Mentor if you fit any of the following:
• You have leadership experience (as a manager, executive officer, business owner or entrepreneur, community leader, etc.)
• You have been mentored before
• You overcame adversity/struggle in your career
• You enjoy seeing other women advance and succeed
• You want to share your experiences and expertise
If you think you fit the bill, we are anxiously awaiting your sign up!
When will I get a mentee?
We match mentors to mentees based on profession, industry, experience, and goals. There is no specific order in which mentors are matched and no guarantee that they’ll ever be matched (at least for a 1-on-1 pairing). With that said, there are opportunities to network with and organically form mentorships with potential mentees.
Why haven’t I been called on for speaking opportunities?
You just haven’t matched a need…yet! Your opportunity is sure to come, but if you’re really anxious, send us a message and we’ll see what we can do.
